Jason Castro Is A Chill Guy

“Idol’s” Jason Castro lays low while flying high.
Freelance reporter Sue Facter tells us she sat next to Castro on the not one, two, but three American flights it took to get back to L.A. for last week’s results show, and says the singer was super chill during the crazazy flight debacle.
After two brutal flights — one of which included sharing food with passengers because the airline didn’t have enough to go around, another ending in an emergency landing, Facter tells us the dread-headed singer didn’t pitch any diva fits, and he was totally chill the entire time.
Just like the stoner he says he isn’t.

David Archuleta’s Dad Loses ‘American Idol’ Backstage Pass

Backstage meddling has caught up “American Idol” favorite David Archuleta’s dad, who’s been banned from rehearsals, a person working for the TV talent contest said Friday.
Jeff Archuleta was told this week by producers that he can no longer join 17-year-old son as David as he prepares for the show, the person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. The person wasn’t authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
The show’s action was first reported Friday by the online Web site TMZ.
David Archuleta of Murray, Utah, is one of three contestants left as the top-rated Fox show heads toward the Jan. 20-21 finale. The fresh-faced teenager with the big voice has consistently been deemed a front-runner by the judges and been a consistent fan favorite.
Jeff Archuleta’s intense backstage involvement had become a source of concern for the series, the person connected with “American Idol” said — but it was a lyric change on Tuesday’s show that pushed producers to act.
Despite a warning, Jeff Archuleta insisted on altering “Stand by Me,” one of two songs his son sang on the show Tuesday. By adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls,” the father incurred additional costs for “American Idol,” the person said.
Fox declined comment. Attempts to reach Jeff Archuleta for comment were unsuccessful. A phone number listed under his name in Murray, Utah, was no longer in service, and Fox did not immediately respond to a request Friday evening for help in contacting the family.
Earlier Friday, David Archuleta was honored at a hometown celebration held at his high school in Murray, during which Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman declared “David Archuleta Day.”
The singer and his family declined to be interviewed at the event, but David Archuleta did speak with the Salt Lake City Fox affiliate, KSTU-TV. “Wow,” he exclaimed as he viewed the cheerleading squad outside his stretch limousine.
The other finalists left in competition for the “Idol” title and a record contract are David Cook and Syesha Mercado. Cook, a native of suburban Blue Springs, Mo., had his own homecoming celebration Friday in Kansas City, while Mercado was feted Bradenton, Fla.

More Clay!
![]()
In case you didn’t get enough Clay Aiken so far, after his “Spamalot” gig on Broadway, he is finally releasing his second original album.
After his double platinum “Measure of a Man” in 2003, he has since released two Christmas albums and a cover album. After 5 years, Clay is ready to release an album with more of his own input into the song selection.
“On the first album, many of the songs were picked for me, or we picked it because it had a great hook. [This time] we tried to find lyrics that were powerful and meant something,” he said.
But let’s not get too excited, folks. Clay wouldn’t want that.

American Idol David Archuleta’s Father: I’m No “Stage Dad”
American Idol contestant David Archuleta has not only attracted attention for his stunning vocals. He also has people talking because of his father, Jeff, who has been dubbed a demanding “stage dad” by some media outlets.
TMZ.com has reported that on Idol Jeff - a 47-year-old small business owner in Salt Lake City- has “screamed at his son and has even withheld water during rehearsals, even bringing his son to tears.”
When David, now 17, competed on Star Search as a boy, then-judge Naomi Judd told the Today show that Jeff was the “worst stage dad.”
For the first time ever, Jeff is speaking out about the allegations to Usmagazine.com, denying claims that he is controlling his son’s career.
He also said there is “absolutely no truth in any of the stories about me yelling at David, making him cry or withholding water from him.”

Read Jeff Archuleta’s complete interview below.
How would you counter reports that you’re a stage dad?
First of all, I had to understand what the term meant. When I think of ‘stage dad,’ I think of the overbearing parent who raises their kids to [compete] in every beauty pageant there is and puts them through a lot of dancing and singing and piano lessons. Once I understood what people thought of as a stage parent, I didn’t understand [why I was targeted]. I’m definitely involved with my son, and I encourage him, but I think that’s a lot different from forcing and threatening and all that stuff. There was absolutely no truth in any of the stories about me yelling at David, making him cry, or withholding water from him. That was crazy!
How would you characterize your involvement with David’s career?
Because I’m also a musician, I’m probably a little bit more involved. I kind of look at it like, ‘I’m David’s music consultant,’ someone he can bounce ideas off, who can help him because I do have a lot of experience.
How do you collaborate with David?
When we have a chance to sit down and talk - which is usually at night or in the morning - we’ll discuss the songs and the choices he has. He’ll ask me what I think, and I’ll ask him what he feels good about, and we’ll arrive at a consensus. Sometimes he’ll call his mom up and get her in-put. We have a family team that tries to help David feel good about his song choices.
